Protective Eyewear While Riding A Motorcycle In Indiana

Today, I’d like to talk about the requirement in Indiana to wear protective eyewear while operating or riding as a passenger on a motorcycle.

What Are The Rules About Protective Eyewear?

Indiana statute says that if they are under the age of 18, the rider or passenger on a motorcycle must wear protective eyewear. Protective eyewear is defined as protective glasses, goggles, or a face shield.

The face shield must be transparent. That doesn’t mean it needs to be clear, but it has to be transparent so one can see through it.

The requirement to wear protective eyewear applies both during the daytime and the nighttime. At nighttime, we would be wearing clear lenses on our glasses, goggles, or face shields.

Does A Windshield Count As Protective Eyewear?

The statute does not count a windscreen or windshield on a motorcycle as protective eyewear. So if you have a windscreen or windshield on your motorcycle, you cannot use it to fulfill the requirement of protective eyewear.

As always, stay safe and enjoy the ride.
