Indiana License Suspension For Running School Bus Stop Arm
Indiana has a new statute that went into effect on July 1, 2019. It is compounding the penalties for failing to stop for a school bus stop arm when the bus is picking up children. That offense has always been a crime.
You Could Go To Jail!
However, a lot of people think it’s just a traffic violation for which you’ll get a ticket. But it’s actually a misdemeanor even on the first offense. And a misdemeanor carries a penalty of up to one year in jail as well as a fine. It is not just a traffic violation and you could go to jail for not properly stopping at a school bus stop arm.
New Penalty: Your License Will Be Suspended
Now, effective July 1, 2019, that offense is going to carry an additional penalty: a mandatory license suspension of 90 days. And if it’s not your first offense, it’ll carry a license suspension of one year.
